We, at Calendars Direct are proud of the fact that we use environmentally friendly products to make our calendars. As per our Environmental Policy, we try to minimise our utilisation of non-renewable resources and maximise recycling opportunities. PaperThe Ambassador paper which we primarily use contains 100% virgin fibre that is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certified. The company has initiated the process to be a Certified Printer under these regulations. The manufacturing process operates under an Environmental Management System that is Certified by ISO 14001 and is Elemental Chlorine Free. The balance is virgin fibre from approved forests and controlled, non-controversial wood sources and is made using an Elemental Chlorine-Free (ECF) bleaching process. Where larger off cuts are available, these are stored and distributed free to local schools and kindergartens. A local recycling company regularly collects all the waste paper. ChemicalsAs per our policy, we purchase water soluble chemicals where possible. Chemicals which cannot be disposed of via normal waste water systems is stored in metal drums. These chemicals are then collected by a waste management company to be disposed of safely. Where possible we use non-solvent based inks and wash-up solutions. Soy/vegetable based inks are also used depending on the application and end use of the product. Other WasteOur policy is to limit land fill waste. Paper, cardboard, metal , plastic and wood pallet waste are separated and recycled with various local recycling companies. Green waste from the gardens is also recycled with a local garden recycler. Residual waste product is minimal and is disposed of via a waste removal company. |
